Why Mixora exists

Most mixing charts begin with an ideal set of pigments. Real studios are messier: different brands, partial collections, uncertain opacity, and colors accumulated over time. Mixora reverses the problem. You describe the paints you have, then the calculator searches that personal palette for a useful recipe.

How the calculation works

Mixora represents each paint as 36 reflectance samples from 380 to 730 nm. For every candidate recipe it combines wavelength-dependent absorption and scattering coefficients using the Kubelka–Munk model, calculates the reflectance of an opaque mixture, then converts that spectrum under standard D65 illumination to CIELAB for a Delta E 2000 comparison. The result is translated into practical whole-part ratios.

When laboratory reflectance or K/S measurements are unavailable, Mixora reconstructs one smooth spectral metamer from the paint's reference color and labels it as reconstructed. Because many different spectra can share one screen color, reconstructed data improves subtractive behavior but is not equivalent to measuring the physical paint.

How we publish paint data

Verified catalog records are entered only when a manufacturer source identifies the color and product line. Each verified record carries its source and review date. A displayed HEX value is a screen reference, not a claim that emitted RGB light exactly describes the physical pigment. User-created paints are clearly kept separate from verified catalog records.

Our guides are written for practical studio use, reviewed against the behavior of real paint, and updated when the calculator or source material changes. We distinguish measured facts, manufacturer information, and useful working estimates. We do not publish generated filler, paid product rankings, or undisclosed sponsored recommendations.

Private by design

Your paint collection, history, uploaded working images, recipes, writing plans, and interface preferences stay in your browser using local device storage. The writing tools and rhyme finder run locally and do not upload their input to Mixora.
