MIXORA FAQ

What the calculator can tell you—and what the paint must decide

Does Mixora replace a physical test swatch?

No. The calculation provides a disciplined starting ratio. Mix a small measured batch, apply it over the intended ground at the intended thickness, let it dry fully, and compare it in the final lighting.

Why can the real mixture differ from the preview?

The preview cannot know every pigment, concentration, binder, opacity, tint strength, surface, finish, thickness, drying shift, contamination, or lighting variable. A paint with only a HEX reference also needs reconstructed rather than measured spectral input.

What does Delta E mean?

Delta E is a numerical estimate of perceptual color difference. Mixora uses CIEDE2000 to rank predicted recipes against the same target. Lower is closer within the model; it is not a universal pass/fail guarantee across different materials and viewing conditions.

Which paint types can I catalog?

You can catalog acrylic, oil, gouache, watercolor, miniature, model, airbrush, and other physical paints. Results are most meaningful when the selected paints are compatible with each other and with the intended surface and medium.

Where are my paints and recipes stored?

Your paint library, collections, projects, history, and saved recipes stay in browser storage on your device. Mixora does not currently upload them to an account. Use the export function to keep a backup before clearing browser data or moving devices.

Are Color Library recipes laboratory tested?

No unless a page explicitly says so and describes the method. Library entries are manually curated editorial starting points based on pigment direction, common studio behavior, and practical ratios. They are deliberately not presented as universal manufacturer formulas.

Can I match paint from a photograph?

You can use a photograph as a reference, but the camera and screen transform the original scene. Choose an evenly lit midtone area, avoid glare, use neutral light, and verify the dried paint against the physical object whenever possible.

Why does Mixora use my actual paint collection?

A recipe is only useful when you can make it. Restricting the search to owned, compatible paints and project collections removes unavailable or unsuitable options and makes the proposed ratio more actionable.
