BRUSH FINDER
Choose a brush by the stroke, not the label
Describe the technique, working scale, paint body, and surface drag. Mixora suggests a practical shape, size range, loading method, and the failure mode to avoid.
STARTING RECOMMENDATION
Flat or filbert
SIZE RANGE1–3BRISTLESpringy synthetic with a controlled point
How to load it
Load the lower third to half of the bristles and reshape the point before the stroke.
Why this fit works
- Flat or filbert supports basecoat control.
- 1–3 is a practical starting range for a miniature working area.
- The selected bristle response matches the surface drag.
Avoid: Avoid letting paint dry into the ferrule; rinse before the brush begins to drag.
BRUSH NUMBERS VARY
Judge the point, belly, spring, and stroke
Size numbers are not standardized across manufacturers. Compare the actual tuft width and length, then test whether the brush holds enough paint while returning to the shape you need.
Keep separate brushes for abrasive drybrushing, metallic flakes, masking fluid, and precision work. A good point usually matters more than an extremely small printed size.
